I joined the club for fitness in McKinleyville, CA in January of 2020: Ive been very happy there until recently. I originally signed up with a gold membership; the price was 64 per month. I added platinum in July of 2020 when The Club created that membership level; an additional 15 per month for a grand total of 79 per month, to include a wide variety of services: a monthly 30 minute personal training session, a 30 minute massage per month, discounts on items purchased, & guest privileges.I have made complaints to multiple organizations including BBB, attorney general and others, the club does not respond, they just want your money now, they dont care about anything, if people get injured, I watch management come out with clip boards because they think people will sue. The new management is from a company called Active Wellness, they just want your money, they killed the boxing program and are still marketing it like classes are happening-go check the class schedule to see that they clearly do not have boxing classes. The aqua aerobics and aqua yoga are highly beneficial for folks who are older or inhibited some way in their fitness and they combined both classes to be an hour and a half long, many people do not like it, just read other reviews for this shady business. I have also watched them change the pay scale for their employees, a friend of mine had her checks cut in half and she is already low income. The Platinum-Services perks have been wildly fluctuating: guests per month varied from unlimited to just 2 per month; Platinum Classes like Club-Zone and Boxing are basically nonexistent; Im forbidden from arriving late to attend Club-Zone classes; massages and personal trainer sessions were eliminated; & the manager Stan Sinder in his role as boxing-class-instructor behaves like an insolent Corporate Executive Officer to his class. Stan Snider exhibits unacceptable levels of chauvinistic behavior as the current boxing instructor; I will not tolerate it. Stan cancels classes at the drop of a hat and I have showed up many times after signing up and there is NO boxing class happening.I received a letter in late August 2025 informing me of a 10 % increase for my membership from 79 to 86.90. I am largely unhappy with these changes and sought to reduce my membership cost to gold, & The-Club has utterly refused to remove the extra 15 monthly charge from my membership when downgrading to gold; still charging 79 per month. They removed all the perks of being a premium member, & then raised their rates in October of 2025: Platinum level membership has no value to me now.The contract I signed in July of 2020, specified my monthly rate of 79 for Platinum-Membership, states they can only increase their rate-cost by 10 % per year: with the downgrade, this rate increase should start at 64 plus 10 % (6.40) for a total of 70.40 per month; the current Increase to my Gold-Membership rate, from 64 to 79, amounts to a 23.4% increase, violating the terms of my contract.I regret to inform you, I have contacted Stan Snider, the general manager, Allanna Ettinger, the assistant manager, as well as Shamiah and Allanna; each stonewall me, stating that 79 per month is their rate, and gaslighting me saying, they have not had 64 per month for a long time; despite the fact that this is the rate I have been paying for nearly 6 years. Stan has not responded whatsoever to my email. Shamiah spoke to me twice on the phone, not in writing. Allanna accused me of requesting a discounted membership despite the rate I have been paying until now. Allanna gaslighted me, claiming I signed an updated contract with my new rate in October of 2025, this is a blatant fabrication; a lie to facilitate increasing my rate out of avarice, in spite of my loyal patronage supporting the Club for Fitness for many years now.
