I used to go Planet Fitness for about 2yrs but I was harassed by multiple male members. The first time a male member who would taunt me everyday at the gym. It got to the point where he was following me on machines, calling me obscene names, and he even gave me the finger when he would pass me. It got so out of control that we got into an altercation because he refused to move away from me while I was on the smith machine. I reported his behavior to the manager and he was given a “warning”. Then a few months later I had another male member who would comment on my appearance and would follow me around the gym trying to ask me personal questions about my life. I reported him to the assistant manager and she informed me that he had also made inappropriate comments to her. Later this same man decided to stand right next to me with his face directly in front of mine while I was using a machine because he wanted the machine. I asked him to move and leave me alone. He refused to move, so I proceeded to go to another machine which he followed me to. At this point I was over his behavior and when he tried to speak to me again I was not kind. After our interaction I reported him to the front desk, the same assistant manger, and I wrote to corporate. Nobody bothered to ask me about what happened and I received a phone call from the regional manager to tell me I was banned but the men would still have their memberships. Besides my own personal harassment I have witnessed an older male member recording a teenager on a machine. I also witnessed a male member threatening another male member with physical violence over a bench. I watched the manager come over and instead of banning the hostile member he just asked him to move and told the man who was being threatened to not stand near him anymore. I witnessed another male member scream at another male member because his friend wanted the smith machine and she was tired of waiting. I just found it ridiculous that there are different rules for different members. It also appears that standing up for yourself and reporting inappropriate behavior to staff doesn’t do anything but get you banned. Planet needs to do better and stop worrying about gaining new members and start focusing on their loyal paying members.
