I am writing to formally express my disappointment with the experience my friend and I had at your Winter Park location. Before anything else, I want to be clear that I am not writing to complain about paying a cancellation fee or about being charged for a class. My concern is about how the situation was handled and the way potential new members were treated during our visit. My friend and I were genuinely excited to try Orangetheory and were seriously considering signing up for memberships together. My friend recently accepted a job in Winter Park and just moved here this week. We planned to attend the 5:30 PM class on Tuesday, March 3, and I even left work early to make sure we arrived on time.Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were told that my friend could not participate in the free introductory class because her original zip code was not in Winter Park. Instead, she was told she would need to pay 29. This did not make sense to us, especially considering she has just relocated and simply does not yet have updated proof of residency. We arrived together, and there was no reason for me to take the class while leaving her sitting out.We were also told that she could try a different studio where her zip code would qualify for the free class. However, that suggestion did not make sense either. If we chose the Winter Park studio, it is because we were interested in joining this specific location. Every studio has different trainers, class environments, and convenience factors based on location. If we are considering a membership at Winter Park, naturally we want to experience the Winter Park studio itself. From a potential members perspective, it also does not seem like the best approach from a sales standpoint to direct interested customers to another studio rather than welcoming them into the one they are hoping to join.Additionally, I was informed that I would be charged 12 if I did not take the class, which felt confusing and frustrating given the circumstances. Again, my concern is not the fee itself, but the lack of understanding and flexibility in a situation that could have easily been handled differently. What was most disappointing, however, was the attitude we received from the moment we arrived. The interaction at the front desk felt unwelcoming and dismissive. The purpose of offering a free introductory class is presumably to allow potential members to experience the studio and encourage sign-ups. We were ready and willing to seriously consider memberships, but instead we were met with resistance and unnecessary obstacles. When I asked for the managers email so I could address the situation, I was told again with a dismissive tone that I would need to come in Monday through Friday before 5 PM to speak with them in person. I work during those hours, which makes that unrealistic. I do not understand why simply requesting the managers contact information became an issue. To reiterate, we were not looking for free classes with no intention of joining. We were genuinely interested in becoming members. Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling unwelcome and undervalued as potential members.I hope you take this feedback seriously, as first impressions matter greatly, especially when someone is considering committing to a membership.
