Edit: After my initial review, the next time I went they had a lot more open play slots on the weekend and said they were going to ease into the DUPR enforcement and let me keep my 3.5 reservation I had made prior to this new policy. I was able to schedule a provisional DUPR rating that is complimentary.
(Initial Review: I would have given 5 stars when I first joined over a year ago, but because of questionable and greedy decisions by the pickleball area and everything being overcrowded, it is now a 1.
About a week ago I was in the middle of an open play game. We got kicked off in the middle of our game because it was time for reservations. I am completely fine with this if there is one, but this was not the case. I noticed 6 courts open on my way out and asked the front why we couldn’t continue to play if there were no reservations like every other time I played. They told me it’s new “policy” that you have to reserve a court during that time for a price. I find it absurd that I pay $300+ a month and they are asking me to pay more even though no one is there. Not to mention, reservations were free when I joined.
In my most recent visit, my 3.5 reservation got moved to a 3.0 reservation because of another “policy” with them being stricter with their DUPRS. I do not play many tournaments and I played one over a year ago at a 3.0 level. They told me could get a “provisional lifetime DUPR” (which isn’t actually a real DUPR) if I signed up, but they only offer it 3 times a week, two of which are during normal 9-5 hrs. I have also done multiple lifetime clinics and their employees and pros have seen me play plenty. I have also played at the 3.5-4.0 level for at least half a year without complaints. I ended up following instructions & played on a 3.0 court, and it clearly was an inappropriate skill level for me to play with. I left and canceled my reservation after because it wasn’t fun for anyone.
On top of this there was a group of 3.5-rated players right next to me, waiting on someone to play because 3.5 wasn’t full enough after this policy change.
The kicker is, if you don’t have a DUPR, I was told you are placed at 3.0 automatically unless you fail to answer a question about pickleball, then you get placed in 2.5. I don’t know how this is an accurate representation of someone’s ability and definitely explains discrepancy I experienced. I believe DUPR levels should be enforced, but I also believe the lifetime pros and employees should be able to use their best judgement. When I talked to the desk, they said “I know how you play and your level, but we now have to be really strict about actual DUPRs.” Or I guess “lifetime provisional DUPR” counts as well.
I am really getting icky feelings, especially for a place at this cost. It feels like they are trying to force people out or just want to make an extra buck.
I will say all of the staff is great and are always helpful, but it feels like they are getting bogged down by rules most of them aren’t even making.
