My husband and I had been members for about 19 years. While Gold's Gym offers low membership fee to new members, it raised our fee annually for decades, resulting we each were paying nearly twice as much as new people. Their biweekly charge is tricky. Calculate carefully, old members, you may find out you are paying much more than you thought.When some problem rose, it was impossible to communicate with the manager. She would never return emails or calls. We had to reach higher level Gold's Gym people beyond Van Ness office.The studio floor is dusty, the shower area has cockroaches, the members tend to be younger and unfriendly, but I could tolerate all that. What we could not stand was lack of responsibility of the manager who ignored our emails and phone calls.Both of us switched to a new gym on Wisconsin Ave. We are much happier. Wish we should have done that years earlier.I see many instructors who moved from Gold's to our gym. One told me that is because they were treated poorly at Gold's.Look for another place, if you are thinking of joining.
