Ive been a member at Equinox Aventura for 3 years, mainly because its the only gym near my office that offers 6:30am classes. The only real positives are the classes themselves (included in the 220/month membership), the gym is small but clean, parking is easy, and most of the front desk staff are friendly. That said, the customer service culture here is extremely disappointing. I have never felt heard. The tone is consistently the client is wrong. Management changes almost yearly, but the attitude never does. There used to be recurring pest issues in the womens locker room I used to see huge roaches crawling around at least once a week. I will say I havent seen any since they "renovated" the showers last year. However, when they shut down all showers for construction, there was virtually no communication. I showed up for my usual 6:30am class only to find every shower closed and no changing space available. They claimed an email was sent the night before. Thats not reasonable notice for members who rely on shower access before work. There were no visible signs posted in advance, and no clear timeline for reopening. I reached out multiple times to management and never received a response.Instructors also seem unwilling to accommodate simple member requests. During early cycling classes (with only 12 members attending), I asked for the fans to be turned on because I was overheating and getting headaches. The instructor flatly refused while he's a hoodie and not actively exercising. It felt dismissive and inflexible.Management also recently reduced the 6:30am strength class from 4 days to 3, replacing it with another cycling class that has lower attendance. When I politely raised this twice in person, I was dismissed with generic responses about what works for members, despite attendance numbers clearly showing otherwise. The steam room is another ongoing frustration. One custodian repeatedly turns the steam dial to OFF while members are inside. Ive had to exit mid-session multiple times to turn it back on. When asked about it, she argues that shes correct. Other members have experienced the same issue. To make matters worse, my favorite instructors Jamal Campbell and Eddie Calle have both left. There was zero communication from management about their departure, as usual. There are still some great, caring instructors here, but its disappointing that the gym doesnt seem to prioritize retaining their most loved coaches. The final straw was when I tried to cancel my membership. I was told the manager wasnt available but that Id receive an email with a cancellation link. I never received it.For 220 per month, you expect a premium experience especially from a brand like Equinox. The facilities are fine, but the culture of dismissiveness and lack of accountability make it exhausting to be a member here.Ive stayed for convenience. But convenience only goes so far.
