Equinox, even not at its best is better than any other gym in NYC. However, this location is not as nice as some other Equinox locations for a number of reasons They do have good classes. They have a pilates fusion course by Lilliane G. that is probably the best pilates course and the main reason why we use this location- better in the sense that her understanding of body mechanics, execution, and muscle isolation/activation is the best we've seen in the last 12 years. She seems to have an endless repertoire of movements, which would be ideal for a person who skis, plays polo, or is into body sculpting as the class improves mobility and core strength. All of the staff are great but the equipment is the problem. There are elliptical machines that randomly stop- and have not been fixed in months. There are safety issues with some of the benches, an accident waiting to happen... for months. The other annoying issue is the layout, as the gym is spread out over many floor- maybe 5 and guess what, the free weights are split on the top and bottom floors. In any event, better than most but worst amongst equals.
