I started doing Crossfit with Crossfit Railbirds in August of 2024. It became apparent after I retired from the military that just working on the farm was not going to be enough to keep me in decent shape, and I had a lot of buddies that had done Crossfit and spoke highly of it so I decided to give it a shot. There were a few gyms within an hour that I could choose from, so I decided to visit them all. The first two I went to were closed, and the third was Crossfit Railbirds. I spoke with Coach Gene and he had nothing but good things to say about all of the other gyms, as well as Railbirds. It was nice to see someone not trying to badmouth others to promote himself, so I was on the hook right off. After talking further, I found out that they had coaches that had training in sports therapy and similar fields, and with my knees in the shape they were in, that was a big bonus, so I decided to try them out. Being new to Crossfit, they insisted that I participate in "101's" to learn the proper form for the movements I would be expected to perform. Having been in the military for 22 years and being pretty physical my whole life I kinda thought it was silly, but it turns out I had a lot to learn. Come to find out, brute strengrh and determination work a lot better with proper form (Who knew?). Coach Eric is extremely thorough about making sure proper form is used and making sure meat heads like me don't try to lift more than they can handle safely and properly. The phrase, "If that's too light, show me that it's easy" pretty much sums up his approach to advancing in weight. The owners, Scott and Tiff, are super friendly and accomodating (and some day, I hope to neat Scott at a workout ). After 1 year at CRB, there were obvious improvements in my strength, mobility, and over all fitness, and the more I go, the better I get. I highly recommend this gym for anyone looming to give Crossfit a shot.
