RUN, DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THIS GYM. I love Anytime Fitness in general and have been a member for over 10 years. I travel regularly for work across the Midwest and have utilized 100’s of Anytime Fitness locations. This particular location, and any others under this management team, are shady and unethical at best. Without notifying me, they altered my membership dues, payment structure, and started charging me "gym upkeep fees". This has more than doubled my annual membership dues. When I brought this to their attention, they refused to refund me, change my contract back to what it was, or correct their error (I'd like to assume this was a clerical error and not intentional unethical business practices). They told me that they emailed a notification of contract changes to the wrong email and, essentially, that it was my fault that they had the wrong email on file. I was regularly at the gym, and they didn't talk to me once about any of this. This is not a reflection of the club in person staff, but of the franchise owners and area managers. 0/10, would not recommend any gym ran by this ownership group to anybody. They are borderline scammers. I have now had to escalate this to the Anytime Corporate Customer Care, so hopefully this gets resolved.
Response to Anytime: Yes, notifications sent to the wrong email, that I didn't reply or acknowledge. Your "options" that you provided to me were to continue with the membership at either $22 bi weekly or $26.75 bi weekly (instead of my original one time per month charge, and no refund because you guys said, and I'm paraphrasing, "why didn't you notice the rate increase sooner?" As if you're allowed to scam people so long as they don't notice immediately. To alter a contract, I would imagine that it would be common courtesy and best practice to make sure all parties are aware of changes being made. I'm sure if your bank increased your monthly car payment without you knowing and then said "well, we emailed you, even though it was to the wrong email, it's your problem, not ours." that you would also be upset and feel cheated.
