I joined this gym earlier this year around Jan/Feb 2025. For a variety of reasons, I am close to my limit and will be paying the $150 cancellation fee to switch out of Anytime Fitness and more specifically, this gym location.
When we first toured this location, we were excited and the employee/manager giving us the tour explained how Anytime Fitness was a premier gym with great amenities and why the monthly prices were higher than other, standard gyms like 24hour Fitness, LA Fitness, Crunch, etc. I’ve worked out at some of these other gyms before, and while I like the hours of 24 hour fitness, the standards for cleanliness are subpar compared to these other gyms. I have seen cleaning crews at these other gyms, I have never seen one at this AF gym. Maybe it’s because I come in early in the morning. Fair. But if you look at the machines, like the Stairmaster for example, you can tell it hasn’t been touched in a year or more. Some machines are cleaner since most gym members wipe it down after each use, but there are so many corners and equipment that just need to be wiped down and sanitized, but you can tell that hasn’t happened in a very long time, if ever. The Stairmaster has everything from hair to dirt to plain old grimy-ness all over it. Same with some of the free weights and weighted plates. Old, chipped, dusty, grimy; there is a good chance some of this equipment hasn't been changed since the place first opened. A lot of the machines need to be updated or flat ourtreplaced.
A good example of how this place seems to operate is something as simple as the yoga mats hanging on the wall. Earlier this year, all of the yoga mats were hanging on the wall on these plastic hooks that had been inserted into the drywall. Then one day, the plastic hooks must have given out because all of the mats and both hooks had fallen to the floor, leaving two empty holes remaining in the drywall. It stayed like this for a week or two. Then one day, the same hooks had been re-stuck into the wall, in a few inches apart from the original holes' location, with only a few mats hanging this time-because that is all the weight the hooks could handle. They were still barely hanging onto the drywall, and it remains that way today. The rest of the yoga mats are stuck in a box that was originally held other equipment. No thought to fix it, or think of a better way to store the mats, just whatever quick fix works is best.
There is a water fountain, but the fill-up station for water bottles included on the station has been broken since I joined. I thought it would be something that would get repaired, but that hasn’t happened for going on 8+ months now.
I try not to use the restrooms. I have walked in to hair and stains on the floors and I, as well as others I know, am not comfortable using them consistently. I try to go before or hold it until after I’m done.
It seems like policies that are enforced are picked and chosen. Almost every day, machines and equipment are left with sometimes 100s of lbs. of plates or weights still on them because of people not re-racking their weights. When a staff member comes in and sees this, or if someone is actually reviewing patron behavior on video recordings, they should find out who is responsible and issue a warning or put a stop to the action. Instead, if you take a selfie on the mirror on the gym floor, you will get texts from a staff member as soon as you leave saying that you shouldn't be doing that. Fair, but maybe treat the people who continuously inconvenience other gym-goers with the same energy. The weights left on equipment is an issue I see and deal with every single day I go into the gym.
I like the people who go to this gym. It isn't a terrible gym to get a quick workout in. I've been to other Anytime Fitness locations in the US and abroad that really are a premier gym experience with tons of space, equipment, cleanliness, and amenities. But for this to be sold or advertised to anyone as a "premier" gym experience, is flat-out lying. I've seen low-budget apartment gyms do better than this.
