American Family Fitness is a locally owned and operated gym chain that has been a part of the Central Virginia community for 35 years (since 1988). With seven locations in Richmond and one in Fredericksburg, they have established a strong presence here.
American Family Fitness Membership Pricing
This Virginia-based gym chain offers what they refer to as the Flex Plan. It doesn’t have any enrollment fees or setup fees. Best of all, there’s no commitment tied to your membership.
A Single Plan at American Family Fitness is $59 per month and you will be given access to all its 8 locations along with a personal training voucher (valued at $50) and a free team training session (valued at $25).
The Couple Plan is $89 per month with the same benefits as the Single Plan, except this membership is for two persons. The Family Plan, on the other hand, is $109 per month and is for 3 persons. The Family Plan also gives you access to to KidZone at all its 8 locations.
The Family Plan is where American Family Fitness truly shines. That’s because you can add more members to your plan (maximum of 10 members) for just $15 per month after the third member. However, take note that only a maximum of 2 persons over the age of 25 can be added to this plan.

What is the Kidzone at American Family Fitness?
The Kidzone is available at their Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Williamsburg locations and it is the onsite childcare services of American Family Fitness. Your little ones will have a blast with games, crafts, and movies while you focus on your fitness journey. It is open to infants aged 6 weeks to 13 years. Reservations are needed for the littlest ones, aged 6 weeks to 12 months.
Does American Family Fitness Have an Annual Fee?
Yes. American Family Fitness has an Annual Maintenance Fee (Total) of $69.00 due on the second month of your membership.
What are the operating hours of American Family Fitness?
The gym operating hours vary depending on the location. American Family Fitness in Chester, Colonial Heights and Midlothian open from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM Mondays to Thursdays. On Fridays it is open from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Saturdays 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Sundays 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Meanwhile the American Family Fitness in Williamsburg have the following hours:

Can I freeze my membership at American Family Fitness?
Yes American Family Fitness lets you freeze your membership under 2 options medical and elective.
Under the medical option, if you or the main member can’t use most gym services for 30 days or more due to a medical reason and are under the care of a doctor or nurse, you can request a pause with no extra fees.
Elective freezes allow the main member to pause their membership up to 6 times a year, for periods of 1 to 6 months each time, with a $15 fee per month. If your membership is still active, medical freezes will extend both the membership and any personal training agreements.
However, if your membership has ended, only one additional month will be added. During the freeze period, your entire membership is paused, meaning you won’t have access to any services.
If you want to resume using the gym before the pause period ends, you can contact or visit any club location to reactivate your membership, possibly with a prorated fee. Click here to freeze your membership.
Can I cancel my American Family Fitness Membership?
Yes, you can cancel your membership at American Family Fitness. Your request will be processed based on your plan’s agreement terms. First, you need to fill out the form. Then allow 7-10 business days for them to confirm your request. Business days are Monday – Friday excluding holidays.
Can I bring a guest to American Family Fitness?
Current members of American Family Fitness can bring one guest per day using a guest pass. Guests must be accompanied by the member and are allowed one visit per calendar month, following sign-in and completion of the Member Code of Conduct. First-time guests, aged over 18 and local residents with valid ID, can enjoy one free visit, redeemable with the pass.

Staff is super friendly!! Always attentive and welcome me aloud and say goodbye regardless if I have headphones in or not!! Locker rooms are always clean and on multiple occasions I have gone in and someone is in the process of cleaning. You get what you pay for. It’s never too crowded, plenty of equipment, and they just added new equipment this week!
However, if you’re not a gym rat or don’t need fancy equipment, I would opt for a cheaper membership somewhere else! Also, this location is NOT 24/7 hours and they close earlier on the weekends!!!

If you’re a couple with children trying to enjoy an adults only workout together or a single parent with limited time to exercise because of parenting responsibilities, now you have no excuse! American Family Fitness (or AmFam) has a KidZone on site to help you enjoy the workout while your children are well taken care of by a dedicated and caring staff. Their facility adheres to stringent daycare policies, including a very good intake and release process. My grandchildren are on my membership, and they love playing with their KidZone friends which allows me to have a worry-free workout. Their 2-hour time period per visit gives me the opportunity to take in a scheduled group workout and lift some weights afterwards. As an added bonus, this facility holds several theme events throughout the year to make coming there fun for the kids. There are also several camps during the summer months, body boot camps, basketball camps, and year-round swimming lessons. American Family Fitness has it all for your children. Now what’s your excuse for not working out???
